What kind of incentive/rebate is best for my lighting project?

There are generally two types of lighting rebates: prescriptive and custom. Which rebates are best for you likely depends on the type of product you are replacing, the type of product you are installing, your utility company, and your project goals. 

The PROS of Prescriptive Rebates:

• Prescriptive rebates are generally more straightforward to claim. In many cases the rebate is a fixed amount per bulb or fixture, and the process is a little simpler.
• Prescriptive rebates are generally lower risk. Since the incentive provider defines the specific criteria for products and applications that qualify for a prescriptive rebate, you can be confident in the rebate amounts earlier in the process. 

The PROS of Custom Rebates:

• Custom rebates are the most flexible. These programs enable you to work with your utility provider on more complicated jobs or special applications that wouldn't be covered by prescriptive rebates. 
• Custom rebates can be an educational experience. Since the process is more involved with custom rebates, you may get to know experts at your utility company better, and who doesn't like to learn from the experts?
